Chui fall to holders South Africa at ACN in Ghana
The national men's hockey team, Chui, was defeated 2-1 in by defending champions South Africa during the second match at the ongoing African Cup of Nations on Wednesday in Accra, Ghana.
A goalless first quarter ignited South Africa for the second as Ntuli Nqobile hit a quick double to put the holders in control.
Butali Sugar defender Constant Wakhura scored a consolation goal for the Kenyans in the 40th minute.
Chui who are in group A, are through to Semifinals following their lone victory of 4-1 against Namibia on Tuesday.
On the other hand, national women’s hockey team Tausi registered their first victory against Zambia to advance to semifinals.
Lakers forward Aurelia Opondo, Blazers defender Flavian Mutiva and team club forward Grace Bwire, were on target for the Kenyans side in the mid staged match.
The 3-0 victory brought Tausi third in Pool B with three points.
They will face Nigeria in their last group stage match, with high hopes to advance to semifinals.
Late budget approval cost Tausi on Tuesday when they lost 3-0 to hosts Ghana in a walkover due to late arrival.
The semifinals are staged for Friday on the ongoing week-long quadrennial event.
