6 Nabbed For Flouting Potato Bags Rules
The market bound produce was intercepted along the Njabini-Magumu road in Nyandarua County.
According to police, the traders were transporting 131 bags of potatoes weighing between 65 and 75 kilograms in three different lorries.
This is in contravention of the recently gazetted regulations that require the packaging of potatoes and other crops in 50 kilograms bags.
Whoever fails to uphold this regulation risks a one year jail term or a 500 thousand fine or both.
Nyandarua County Executive Officer in charge of agriculture Agatha Thuo has expressed concern over flouting of the regulations saying this hurts farmers
She says the county is committed to taming such practices and called on the public to help them by availing information on offenders.
