Police officers arrested collecting bribe
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives in North Coast have arrested two traffic police officers extorting bribes from motorists along Malindi -Kilifi road.
The officers received reports from the motorists plying the route that they were constantly being harassed by the traffic cops.
The EACC Deputy Director in charge of Upper Coast Region Mr. George Ojowi said that their team carried out an independent surveillance on the road and established that the officers were openly collecting bribes.
“Our special operation team carried out a sting operation and we arrested two traffic officers along the road at Mkoroshoni area” he said.
Ojowi said that they also recovered several folded Kenya shillings notes of different denominations that had been hidden in the nearby bush.
“The officers will be arraigned in court on Monday the 7th after we get consent of the Director of Public Prosecutions” Ojowi said.
