Driver and female passenger injured after their lorry rammed trailer

An accident occurred last night on Saturday, October 9, 2021, just a few minutes past 8pm involving two trucks - lorry and trailer.

Reports indicated that the lorry rammed the rear of the trailer in unclear circumstances.

The driver of the lorry and his female passenger were subsequently trapped in the driver’s cabin with rescuers making frantic efforts to free them.

The two are said to have sustained serious injuries with police arriving at the scene to clear the vehicles and help with the rescue mission.

After nearly one hour of trying - the two were freed from the wreckage with help from Makueni fire engine which had been called to the scene to help free the trapped passengers.

The help came after the police working closely with the members of the public, medical officers who were called to the scene made every effort to save the two.

The incident was confirmed by the Makueni police boss Mr Joseph Ole Napeiyan.

“The two vehicles were headed towards Nairobi when one of he hit the other from behind. The driver of the lorry and his passenger were trapped for over one hour inside the vehicle,” said Napeiyan.

The driver and the passenger are currently undergoing treatment at the Makindu hospital as investigations into the accident continues.

The two vehicles were towed to the Mkindu police station.
