Gaspo ready to face Zetech in mid week fixture
Gaspo head coach Isaac Maluki says he has identified the team’s mistakes which handed them a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Kayole Starlets last Sunday in the Kenyan Women Premier League.
Gaspo return to the pitch Wednesday to confront Zetech at Stima club and Maluki is confident they can put up a good show after recording two defats on the bounce, losing 2-1 to Thika Queens before last weekend’s hiding.
“We have lost our first two matches something which we need to improve on. We have been experiencing challenges in our striking and defence departments but that’s something I am working on going into tomorrow’s match,” he charged, in an interview with Citizen Digital.
“We are now pointless meaning we need to harvest at least six points this week including our weekend match against Kibera Girls. Our aim is to finish the league among the top three so that we can be in the league playoffs,” he explained.
Over the weekend, Gaspo unveiled six new faces including lethal striker Mercy Airo who was signed from Kisumu Starlets, and has been an important cog in the national set-up Harambee Starlets. Others are; Laventine Khaemba (Kisumu Starlets), Stellah Liseche (Kibera Girls), Diana Wacera (Mathare United women), Rhoda Wafula (Ibinzo Girls School), and Shajani Unizer who formerly featured for English second tier side Barnsley United.
Their mid week opponents Zetech will also be hoping to get back to their winning ways after going down 2-1 against Thika Queens last weekend.
After round three, Thika Queens top Zone A standings with nine points, three ahead of Kayole Starlets and Ulinzi Starlets who occupy second and third positions respectively as Makolanders and Kibera wrap up the top five bracket with four points each.
In Zone B League, Trans Nzoia Falcons top the table with 9 points same with Vihiga Queens and Kisumu All Starlets in second and third positions in that order.
