Kilimani: Police officer among four arrested over illegal possession of firearms

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Kilimani have arrested four people over illegal possession of firearms. The sleuths, who were on patrol, intercepted Chris Mwangangi and Lucia Wanjiku who were driving along the Arwings Kodhek and Ring Road junction. The detectives flagged down the vehicle – a black land cruiser V8 – as it did not have the front number plate, thereby arousing their suspicion. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, they recovered one ceska pistol with its serial number erased as well as one revolver pistol. They further established that Chris, who was driving, was not the actual owner of the vehicle, and that it belonged to one Jeff Maina, a close friend of his. Chris then called Jeff and informed him of the predicament, upon which the latter drove to Kilimani Police Station, only to be arrested as well. The officers conducted a quick search on the vehicle he had arrived in, a Mercedes Benz, and recovered two police handcuffs, one ceska magazine loaded with 7 rounds of 9mm ammunitions, one police pocket phone, and several identification cards. “The suspects were placed in custody pending investigations, while the recovered firearms were handed over to ballistics experts for examination,” read The police statement. “Also arrested is a police officer based in Mombasa, who is believed to have given the handcuffs to the suspects.”
