Allies of Deputy President William Ruto have hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta following his statement last week criticizing his deputy for what he termed as engaging in early campaigns and moving too fast.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her Kikuyu counterpart Kimani Ichungwa told off the president saying they will not be coerced into slowing down their momentum.

“Wale wameona kuwa tuko na candidate, tuko na chama, na tuko na sera, ati sasa tutembee polepole tuwangojee?” Ichungwa said during United Democratic Alliance (UDA)’s campaign tour in Nyeri County on Saturday.

“Tunataka tuwaambie hao wanasema tuko na mbio ndio tuwasubiri, hatupangwingwi,” said Jumwa.

Ruto’s return for the second leg of his Nyeri run comes barely a week after ODM leader Raila Odinga campaigned there as the scramble for the vote-rich Mount Kenya region intensifies.

On his part, the DP pledged to ensure all pending 2013 and 2017 campaign pledges were honored if elected president in next year's polls.

He further added that top on his presidential manifesto was implementing health bills to make healthcare affordable for all.

“Next year, the first one hundred days za serikali ya mwaka ujao, tutahakikisha kuna bima ya afya ambayo itagharamia matibabu ya kila Mkenya na watu hawatauza mali yao kulipa bills za hospitali,” said Ruto.

Saturday’s tour saw Ruto address rallies in Karatina, Othaya and Nyeri town.
