Man, 24, hacks his grandmother to death before killing her goats, cows, donkey in Homa Bay
A 70-year-old woman was Tuesday morning killed by her grandson under unclear circumstances at Ruga A village in Homa Bay Sub County.
The woman identified as Priscila Olumbe was hacked to death using an axe by the 24-year-old grandson at dawn before he killed five goats, three cows and injured a donkey belonging to his grandmother.
It was reported that the man attacked his grandmother as she was sleeping in the house at around 2.00 am.
The suspect is said to have first locked the door and attacked his grandmother with a panga and when the granny collapsed on the door of her bedroom, he picked an axe and continued to attack her.
The granny had taken care of the suspect since his childhood after the death of his mother.
The late Priscila’s brother-in-law Sila Ngare said the reason for the murder could not be immediately established.
Ngare said they suspect the young man might have developed a mental problem since he has been epileptic.
The granny sustained serious injuries on various parts of the body before she died on the spot.
The young man had also attempted to attack the granny’s niece who is a Class Seven pupil at a primary school in the area, however, the girl opened the window and escaped.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Esther Seroney confirmed the incident saying they are conducting investigations into the matter.
The suspect is being detained at Homa Bay Police station while the body of the deceased was moved to the County Referral Hospital morgue.
