Nairobi detectives are pursuing three men believed to have been involved in a foiled robbery attempt at Shauri Moyo on Tuesday night.

The three, police say, were part of a four-man gang that managed to gain entry into a residential house at Jua Kali area at 10pm, before stealing three mobile phones and a 43-inch HiSense TV.

The robbery was cut short when a neighbour raised alarm after noticing the gang terrorising the house’s occupants.

Fearing for their safety, three gang members escaped but 25-year-old Ian Otieno was adamant on not leaving the TV behind and that would prove to be his undoing.

With the TV in his possession, Otieno managed to circumvent the furious mob that had gathered outside the house after using a dagger to cut one of the persons impeding his escape.

He was however nabbed moments later by Shauri Moyo police constables who got wind of the situation.

“Responding swiftly and getting a gist of the violent robbery, the police pursued the criminal gang, moments later cornering and arresting Otieno who clung on to the stolen TV. A bloodstained knife was also found tucked on his trousers,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.

Otieno is currently in police custody awaiting arraignment for robbery with violence as sleuths continue to track down his three accomplices.
