Mutuku late show helps Homeboyz climb top of FKF-PL
Kakamega Homeboyz FC scored twice in the closing seven minutes to force a 2-2 draw in a dramatic FKF Premier League clash against Mathare United at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.
Yema Mwana sparked the comeback and Sunday Mutuku completed it in stoppage time as the hosts secured a precious point saw them topple Kariobangi Sharks as the new league leaders.
Homeboyz had fallen behind when Brian Eshihanda turned the ball into his own net and Eugene Wethuli doubled Mathare’s lead just after the hour mark.
Momentum shifted in favour of Homeboyz late on and they managed to steal a point in stunning fashion when Mutuku’s fierce drive from outside the box beat Mathare goalkeeper Brian Omondi.
Nairobi City Stars and Nzoia Sugar battled to a barren draw elsewhere at the Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi with Talanta extending their fine run by defeating Bidco United 2-1 later at the same venue.
A few kilometres away in Kasarani, Police FC scooped all three points from Sharks in a shock 3-1 success.
Clinton Kinanga had put the policemen in front before Patilah Omoto equalised at the end of the first half.
Clifton Miheso turned the rest of the match into his own show as the former Gor Mahia FC man scored twice in two minutes at the dying minutes to hand the service men a dramatic win.
Elsewhere in Wundanyi, Lawrence Juma was on target again as Sofapaka edged struggling Wazito FC 2-1. Hansel Ochieng got the late winner for Sofapaka after Ellie Asieche’s net-burster had cancelled out Juma’s effort.
