Kalonzo vows to eradicate corruption as Wiper endorses him for presidential race
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has promised to prioritize the fight against corruption in the country if elected president in the 2022 elections.
The former Vice President was speaking during the Wiper National Delegates Conference held at Kasarani stadium in Nairobi on Thursday where he was endorsed as the party’s flag bearer ahead of the general elections.
“The National Delegates Conference has adapted with respect to the presidential candidate and hereby resolve that His Excellency Kalonzo Musyoka is the presidential candidate of the Wiper Democratic Party,” Secretary-General Shakila Abdalla said.
In his address, Kalonzo stressed on combating corruption which he said is ‘the dragon hurting the nation and must be slain.’
“Theft of public funds has become the order of the day. Our nation has been impoverished by extremely burdensome debt triggered by overzealous corruption we have never seen before. As a result, our youth have lost confidence in the government and hope in the future,” Kalonzo said.
He added: “In a Kalonzo government there will be no room for corruption and the thieves will have no place to hide. I will restore faith in government and in all our institutions.”
At the same time, the Wiper leader vowed to root out all the corrupt leaders in the government and ensure they face the law.
“I will not rest until all the corrupt are in jail and their ill-gotten loot is back in our coffers,” he said.
Similarly, Kalonzo criticized the current leaders in government who have created a 'breeding zone' for corruption and a hideout for looters of public property saying that they are injuring the future of the youth.
“Thieves have been running around the country masquerading as saviour while crucifying our children’s future at the altar of corruption,” he stated.
While referring to his track record during former President Mwai Kibaki’s regime, Kalonzo pushed his agenda of the 24-hour economic model which he said would ensure new prosperity for the nation, highlighting free secondary education, reviewing taxation and fostering agricultural growth.
Musyoka urged citizens to choose their leaders wisely by focusing on their track record and their personalities.
“We, therefore, have this unique opportunity to retrace our path to prosperity with a leadership that we can believe in and trust. Hakika tutaweza,” Kalonzo said.
Consequently, the Wiper leader bashed his competitors whom he accused of deceiving Kenyans with empty promises and bribing voters in order to be elected.
“Beware of politicians who give cash and empty promises for there is nothing such as free money. We have seen them promise stadiums, laptops, sufficient water and showers in villages,” he criticized.
Leaders present acknowledged the Wiper leader as a man of ‘good character and untold humility.’
Also at the event was ODM leader Raila Odinga One Kenya Alliance co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula, Gideon Moi, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju, Governor Charity Ngilu among others.
