Onesmus Masaku murder: Cop Nancy Njeri pleads not guilty, remanded

Police Constable Nancy Njeri has been remanded after she pleaded not guilty to the charge of killing lawyer Onesmus Masaku.

She will be remanded at the Machakos Police Station and later moved to the Machakos G.K. Prison.

Njeri, who has since been suspended from the police force, had appeared before High Court Judge David Kenei on Tuesday morning.

The lawyer died at the Kenyatta National Hospital where he had been receiving treatment after his hands were slashed on October 7, 2020.

At the time of the incident, Njeri was stationed at the Makueni Police Station in Wote.

She is accused of slashing the advocate’s hands using a machete.

It is alleged that the two had an altercation at the lawyer’s house before the incident occurred.

The advocate was rushed to the Makueni Hospital but later transferred to KNH.

Njeri was later arrested and arraigned in court on October 9 where she was charged with causing grievous harm.

The charges were later amended to murder after the lawyer succumbed to his wounds.

LSK President Nelson Havi, his deputy Caroline Kamende and LSK chairman South Eastern Justus Mutia are among a battery of lawyers representing the deceased.
