Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati has suspended ICT Director James Muhati, ICT Coordinator Paul Mugo and ICT officer Boniface Wamae for what he terms as falling short of assisting the commission to successfully discharge its mandate. In an internal memo to the electoral commission chief executive officer Ezra Chiloba, Chebukati said the move is to aid full and proper investigations to be conducted and restore public confidence in the commission’s ability to carry out the presidential repeat polls. This is the second time the ICT boss has been ousted from the election commission after being sent on a compulsory leave for a month following accusations that he refused to cooperate in the auditing of ICT systems. In the recent past, National Super Alliance flag bearer, Raila Odinga, has demanded personnel changes at the IEBC, including the removal of James Muhati who the opposition has accused of playing a key role in the bungling of the August 8 elections.
