Bonny Khalwale spreading lies about me – Governor Oparanya

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has hit out at Senator Bonny Khalwale for allegedly spreading lies about him.

Speaking at Navokholo Catholic Church on Sunday, Governor Oparanya accused Khalwale of perpetuating lies for political gains saying he is ready to account for every cent he has used since taking office.

“He (Khalwale) claims that I am marrying ten women like I am a donkey. He is also claiming that am using county funds to build houses, like he does not even know county funds are kept at Central Bank.”

“I am paid Ksh1 million and that is enough for me to put my life in order, I was once a Minister and that comes with money as well which I have invested well.”

He further stated that allegations made by the Senator that he is stealing county funds are false, adding that if he (Khalwale) has evidence he should forward it to the police.

Khalwale has made several allegations against Oparanya including the apparent diversion of county funds to personal projects and the setting up of a cane buying centre in Butere which is seen to frustrate efforts to revive Mumias Sugar Company.

Khalwale’s interest in Kakamega’s governorship strained his relationship with Oparanya further, with the two even engaging in public outbursts.

The governor was also linked to chaos that broke out during CORD co-principal and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula’s presidential bid launch at Masinde Muliro in April.

Oparanya is said to have made attempts to frustrate the event, fearing that Khalwale who decamped from the defunct UDF to Ford Kenya was going to use the platform to launch his governorship bid.

CORD leader Raila Odinga was notably absent from the rally, which was also snubbed by Kakamega Governor and ODM Deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya.

Oparanya’s chief of staff Nabii Nabwera was consequently arrested and taken to court over the chaos.
