Mike Sonko, former Governor turned Kenya’s best ‘recording artist’, is back with another hit
In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. Well, I am here to propose we add one Mike Sonko’s hobby of recording everyone who calls him onto that list.
The former Nairobi Governor turned blogger and ‘recording artiste’ Mike Mbuvi Sonko is back in the news with a not so shocking revelation, his penchant for recording practically everyone who calls him.
The bigger surprise is there are people who actually dial this controversial politician’s phone and believe that whatever they are talking about is strictly between the two of them.
Unbeknownst to them, their conversations, even when it comes to serious personal matters touching on sex and nudity, are always held before an audience with their cameras all recording. He also saves the tete-a-tete for a rainy day when the flamboyant politico decides to ruin your day, career, reputation or any relationships you hold dear.
Even when he is in the toilet “taking a leak” the man never forgets to hit the record button and leak the conversation later. That is not a man you call when you have a secret, easier to just go to the nearest market and tell the world your issues or tweet them yourself.
Yes, we cannot repeat anything the good man has shared on his socials but you know where to find it if you really want to.
This is not new, he has been recording people for years but it was in 2017 when he started releasing his records.
Friend or foe, Sonko does not care, if you have said something personal or incriminating to him on phone, just go through life knowing that he has that recording, be it video or audio, somewhere waiting for its turn.
Here are some of his “phone call” victims; President Uhuru Kenyatta, Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu, his former Deputy Polycarp Igathe, Starehe MP Jaguar, Esther Passaris, Nairobi businessmen Praful Kumar and Mark Maina. This week he has leaked conversations with many people with the most devastating being Merry Nkatha. This is just a small list, the victims can form a constituency.
For Nkatha, it has been so devastating what with the video showing some personal matters that saw her rush to the police for help.
Nkatha has sought police protection claiming her life is in danger after he leaked several conversations.
Responding to her, Sonko now claims that it was Nkatha that had been furnishing him with information for the past 10 months and he has 149 clips (both audio and video) that capture their frequent conversations since January 2021.
To the neutral Kenyans, the recordings are a funny thing, something to laugh at and share on their numerous WhatsApp groups, but to the involved parties, this is no laughing matter and we may never know just effective or damaging they are to the interested parties.
