Family in agony following disappearance of lawyer Benson Kayai

A family in Nairobi’s Kahawa West area is living in worry after their kin went missing on Sunday last week.

54-year-old Benson Njau Kayai, a city-based lawyer, is said to have been allegedly abducted by unknown people on Sunday evening along Muhoho avenue in South C.

There are no leads yet, with investigations ongoing.

Eye witness accounts as narrated to the family and investigating officers tell of an alleged abduction.

According to Lang’ata OCPD Benjamin Mwanthi, on the said day, a case was reported of a car that was left in the middle of the road along Muhoho Avenue.

Inside it were food essentials, like bread and milk. When the family reported on Tuesday that Benson was missing, the police linked up the two reports.

However, the car that Benson Kayai was driving when the incident occurred was not his.

“His car is a Mercedes but he was not using it that day, he had a fielder which was KCC something…. But when I interview the guy, the owner of the fielder, he says that he has been giving him most of the weekends he uses it most of the time…,” says Nick kayai, a brother to the deceased.

The 23-year -old son to the deceased says he was on phone with his father at around 5pm. His father wanted to know whether their family ran shop was okay. Ian promised to respond after doing a physical checkup. But phone calls to his father less than an hour later went unanswered.

According to the Law Society of Kenya website, Benson Njau worked on cases ranging from commercial law, corporate and criminal law as well as family law and succession matters and property, conveyancing, landlord and tenant law.

It is still unclear whether or not his involvement with a case could have been the cause of his alleged abduction.

Investigators say that his house in South C where he lived alone is still intact, nothing seems out of place.
