Nikita Kering bags two AFRIMA awards beating Wizkid, Adekunle Gold

  • The 19-year-old singer won in the categories of Best Artiste Rnb and Soul for her hit song ‘Ex’ and Best Female Artiste East Africa.

Kenyan singer Nikita Kering  has been crowned the Best East Africa's female artist, bagging two awards in the just concluded Afrimma awards. 

The 19-year-old singer won in the categories of Best Artiste RnB and Soul  for her hit song ‘Ex’ and overall Best Female Artiste in East Africa.

Ms Kering shared the delightful news through her Instagram on Monday, captioning a photo of her holding the two awards: 

“Thank You!!! And @afrima.awards I didn't do this alone, I did it with you. Thank you and Thank God. 1) Best Artiste Rnb and Soul 2) Best Female Artiste East africa.”

The Afrimma awards also took to Twitter, congratulating the hitmaker on her recent successes. 

“Here she goes again...@nikita_kering wins #AFRIMA2021 Best Artiste, Duo, or Group in African R & B Soul, Still We Sing.”

In the Best female artiste in Eastern Africa category, Kering was nominated alongside Afrie (Uganda) Karun ( Kenya), Merry Zerabruk (Eritrea), Nandy (Tanzania), Rema Namakula, DJ Harold & Chike (Uganda), Rosa Ree (Tanzania), Spiece Diana (Tanzania), Xenia (Kenya) and Zuchu (Tanzania).

In the Best Artist, duo or group in African Rnb & Soul, Kering was nominated together with Adekunle Gold ft. Lucky Daye – ‘Sinner’, Aya Nakamura ft. Stormzy – ‘Plus Jamais’, Djodje- ‘Tempo Sabi’, Elaine – ‘Right Now’, Gyakie ft. Omah Lay – ‘Forever’, Nikita Kering – ‘Ex’, Oxlade – ‘Ojuju’, Tems – ‘Damages’, T’neeya – ‘Dark Twisted Fantasy’, Wizkid ft. Tems – ‘Essence’

The AFRIMA awards, whose theme was 'Still We Sing' was held in Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday November 21.
