A 35-year-old man’s dream has finally come true after he passed the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise on Tuesday.

Although many young people were rejected for various reasons, it was a good day for Gideon Sang, who was recruited into the Kenya army after trying for more than 14 years.

“I have come to try my luck in the KDF recruitment and I am very lucky this time,” said a joyous Sang, adding that he was happy to be joining his old friends from the National Youth Service, who were already in the army.

“I am very happy because my friends whom we were together at NYS had already got into the army and I was left.”

The KDF recruitment exercise in Nandi County took place at the Kapsabet Showgrounds.

“I want to thank the recruitment officers we had here at Kapsabet,” added Sang.

Speaking during the recruitment, Lt.Col. Hesbon Wafula, a senior recruiting officer, praised the exercise as free and fair, advising members of the public to report anyone extorting money with the promise of aiding in recruitment.

“This is a very free and fair process that is conducted every year. There is no bribery allowed any member of the public who has been asked for money to get into the Kenya Defense Forces, it is very wrong and you should report immediately,” said Wafula.
