Ouma to captain Shujaa at the Commonwealth Games as Simiyu name squad

The Kenya Rugby Union has announced its squad for the Commonwealth Games in Australia with head coach Innocent Simiyu making only two changes to his silver medallist squad at the Vancouver Sevens.

Oscar Ouma will captain the Kenya Sevens men team to the  Commonwealth Games, replacing injured skipper Oscar Ayodi who has failed to recover fully ahead of the global event.

Resolution Impala Saracens fullback Ian Minjire will debut for the national team at the Commonwealth, making a comeback to the squad after missing the season openers due to personal commitments.

Mwamba RFC duo of speedster Collins Injera and Billy Odhiambo are joined by the ever-present Willy Ambaka and Menengai Cream Homeboyz youngster Jeff Oluoch.

Authur Owira and former Captain Andrew Amonde of KCB  also makes a return to the squad with the burly Dan Sikuta of Kabras Sugar and Top Fry Nakuru winger Nelson Oyoo making it to the list which consists of 13 players.

Impala Saracens Samuel Oliech who had an injury scare at the Vancouver Sevens has been declared fit enough to play and will partner with Eden Agero of Kenya Harlequins at the flyhalf position to convert the much-needed tries.

However, Samuel Muregi and Eric Ombasa who won the just concluded Victoria Falls with the youthful Shujaa squad in Zimbabwe will not earn their maiden debut to the global events.

At the same time, Kenya Lionesses coach Kevin “Bling” Wambua also named his squad to the HSBC Sevens Series qualifications in Hong Kong and the Commonwealth Games respectively.

Experienced Philadelphia Olando of KCB will Captain the squad with  Sheila Chajira deputising her.

The squad also consist of experienced players like Sinaida Aura, Janet Okello, Linet Moraa and Grace Odhiambo — is optimistic of a podium finish.

Doreen Remour, Celestine Masinde, Camila Cynthia Rachel  Mbogo and Janet Owino also made it to the travelling party.
