Probe starts after Kitale Prison officer shoots himself dead

  • The officer did not indicate any signs of unrest as it seemed a normal day at work.  
  • His body has been taken to Kitale level four hospital as investigations are underway. The circumstances of his death are still unclear.

A police investigation has been launched in Lessos town, Kitale county, after a prisons department officer shot himself multiple times in his home on Wednesday night.

According to the department's chief officer, Emmanuel Odhiambo, the officer stationed at Kitale maximum prisons showed no signs of unrest and appeared to be going about his business as usual.

He then later headed home with his gun which he used to take his life.

Odhiambo added that the case came as a shock as he has served for only a few years in the department.

His body has been taken to Kitale level four hospital as investigations are underway. The circumstances of his death are still unclear.
