'Mudavadi will be a liability to DP Ruto if named running mate,' Political Analyst Manyora says

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi will ruin Deputy President William Ruto’s chances of clinching the presidency should the DP decide to name him as running mate ahead of the August polls, political analyst Herman Manyora has said.

If DP Ruto sides with the OKA co-principal, Manyora says, the following he has seemingly gained in Mount Kenya will doubt his intentions for the region and presumably abandon his presidential bid.

“If Ruto decides to make Mudavadi his running mate, it will damage his Mount Kenya votes. Mudavadi will be more of a liability to Ruto than an asset because such a move will send panic to Ruto’s camp in the mountain,” Manyora said in an interview on his Youtube channel.

Manyora similarly added that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s supporters, who are pro-Raila Odinga, will also take the opportunity to highlight DP Ruto’s perceived inability to deliver to the region, should Mudavadi join his camp.

“The people from Uhuru’s side will go into overdrive, selling the narrative that the man that you are trusting is now bringing Mudavadi here. They will say that Mudavadi will be the biggest beneficiary of his (Ruto’s) government,” he added.

The hypothetical coming together of Ruto and Mudavadi, Manyora added, will also look awkward as people will view Mudavadi’s move, as one that was made out of spite because of his falling out with Odinga as such it won’t be taken seriously.

“Everybody looking at that thing will see that this is a bitter man who is simply acting out of anger because Raila has refused to support him, because Uhuru has refused to support him. If Mudavadi is not getting their support, they will also not get his,” Manyora added.

The political analyst’s utterances follow Mudavadi’s Wednesday public denial that DP Ruto has approached him to join his UDA camp.

Speculation on Mudavadi's political future was put in the spotlight after DP Ruto's surprise appearance at the Cleophas Malala tournament in Bungoma on New Year's Eve where he labelled Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula as the only Luhya leaders he can work with to form the next government.
