COVID 19: Kenya’s positivity rate at 2.1% after 151 infections, 3 deaths recorded
The Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that 151 people contracted COVID-19 from a sample size of 7,224 tested in the last 24 hours.
The positivity rate is now at 2.1%, with total confirmed positive cases rising to 252,839 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,682,247.
From the cases, 141 are Kenyans while 10 are foreigners; 84 are males and 67 are females, while the youngest is a one-year-old child and the oldest is 113 years.
The cases were recorded across various counties namely; Nairobi 30, Bomet 18, Meru 17, Makueni 13, Nakuru 9, Kericho 8, Bungoma 7, Kisii 5, Kajiado 5, Kisumu 4, Mombasa 4, Narok 4, Kakamega 3, Nyeri 3, West Pokot 3, Uasin Gishu 3, Kiambu 3, Marsabit 2, Nyandarua 2, Garissa 2, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Laikipia 1, Vihiga 1, Machakos 1, Murang'a 1 and Migori 1.
The ministry said 35 patients recovered from the coronavirus, with 25 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 10 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries hence rose to 246,390.
However, 3 patients succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in July and October 2021. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,263.
“A total of 488 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,308 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program,” read the statement by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
“27 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 13 of whom are on ventilatory support and 14 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.”
The statement added: “Another 157 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 149 of them in the general wards. 8 patients are in the High Dependency Units (HDU).”
CS Kagwe further stated that a total of 5,029,901 vaccines had been administered across the country as of October 25, 2021. Of these, 3,545,060 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,484,841.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 39.8%. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 5.4%.
