  • The accused was awarded 20-year imprisonment for rape and one-year imprisonment for threatening to kill his younger daughter if she dared to report the incident.

A man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for defiling one of his daughters aged 12 years and threatening to the other aged eight years in Siaya County.

According to a statement by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), the accused was handed two sentences that were set to run concurrently.

Appearing before Siaya Court Judge Laban Ngetich, the accused was awarded a 20 years imprisonment for rape and one-year imprisonment for threatening to kill his younger daughter if she dared to report the incident.

The court heard that in 2020, at Nyangoma sub-location in Siaya, the 53-year old man lured his two daughters to his bedroom where he committed the hideous act to the older girl.

“He asked them to go sleep in his bed since the roof in the sitting room where the girls slept was leaking. The victim said she woke up to some discomfort,” read the ODPP statement.

ODPP further explained that the victim reported the incident to their uncle but he failed to take any action.

The minor proceeded to tell her mother who lived away after separation from their father.

Their mother then reported the incident to the police who apprehended the perpetrator.
