Zimbabwe edge Kenyas Simbas in Victoria Cup

Defending Victoria Cup champions Zimbabwe narrowly beat Kenya 30-29 in a match played on Saturday August 2, 2019 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Top Fry Nakuru’s Monate Akuei scored a brace for Paul Odera charges but it wasn’t enough to give simba the victory.

It was 17 all at the interval after both sides scored three unconverted tries.

Trailing 10-00 Johnstone Mangau intercepted through the sables defense passing to Monate racing down the pitch to land Simbas first try.

Monate run to the wing scoring his second try Jacob Ojee missing the conversion.

Zimbabwe scored their third try but Kuka scored Kenya’s third try to make it 17 all at interval.

Flanker Elkeans Musonye swang past Zimbabwe’s defense to put Kenya 17-22 up but that was short-lived as Zimbabwe landed a converted try to lead 24-22.

Kenya however landed another five pointer as Peter Kilonzo set Mung’au with Antony Odhimbo adding the extras to go 24-29. Two late penalties saw Zimbabwe win 30-29.

Kenya’ next match is against Zambia on August 24 in Nairobi before playing Zimbabwe on September 21.
