Why Matano could be on his way to Tusker

On-demand AFC Leopards head coach Robert Matano could be on his way to Tusker FC at the end of the season.

“The Lion” as he is fondly known has become the object of great admiration from suitors after guiding the perennially underachieving  Ingwe to a GOtv-Shield crown, despite an underwhelming season, bedecked by change of coaches at the club.

In an in interview with Citizen Digital, Matano admitted that a number of clubs are falling over themselves for his signature, with Tusker leading the cue.

The veteran tactician has however said that contract talks are ongoing with the Ingwe executive and should the parties agree, he could be at the club next term.

“It will depend on AFC Leopards bosses to decide whether they want me to stay or not but I’m available. It’s not only Tusker FC who have approached me but many clubs.

“I’ m ready to talk with them if they are willing because my short term contract is fast expiring.”Matano said.

According to Matano, what will make him accept or reject any offer depends on the respect, freedom and a conducive working environment.

“I have not brushed shoulders with anybody at Leopards but not all will be thankful to what I have achieved in the short period I have served,”he said.“I want to work with a side that will give me respect and freedom,” the former Ulinzi Stars coach added.

Matano took the reins at the club mid-way through the term on a six- month contract and surprised many when he guided the club to the domestic title despite a not-so-rosy campaign in the league.

By winning the GOtv-Shield, Ingwe earned the nod to participate in the Caf- Confederations Cup next term and the club will have to quickly fix the coaching gap if they are to have appropriate preparations for the continental club championship.

Leopards are currently placed position 12th on the KPL log with 36 points.
