Why coach Mbungo is in no hurry to name his deputy

New Bandari FC head coach Andre Casa Mbungo is in no hurry to fill the assistant coach position after the dismissal of Nasoro Mwakoba from the technical bench but promises to do so within two weeks’ time.

Speaking after guiding his charges to his first win since taking charge of the team, the Rwandan tactician said he’s still in search for a ‘perfect coach’ who will help him implement his philosophy at the Mombasa based team.

“I don’t want to rush, that is why I am taking my time but in one or two weeks you will get to know him,” Mbungo explained.

The former Rayon Sports and AFC Leopards coach has at the same time hinted that his deputy will be a Kenyan as he’s well conversant with Kenyan league players and coaches.

“He will be a Kenyan coach and not a foreigner that is all I can tell you for know,” he insisted when pressed further.

Earlier on speculation was rife that Patrick Odhiambo who was Gor Mahia assistant coach would deputize Mbungo. Odhiambo however docked at Kakamega Homeboyz, as Nicholas Muyoti’s assistant. Muyoti and his charges however had a bad outing at the Coast losing 4-3 to Bandari, in a continuation of unpalatable results for the side.

When hired some two weeks ago, Bandari FC board gave Mbungo the free hand to appoint his assistant in a bid to improve results. This is seen as a way to harness a cordial working relationship in the technical bench.

“We will not interfere with the process thus gave him space to recruit someone he will be working with,” said Bandari CEO Edward Oduor during the unveiling earlier this month.

The Dockers released their assistant coach Nasoro Mwakoba and goalkeeper trainer Razak Siwa upon completion of their contracts after Ken Odhiambo ditched the Coastal side for Sofapaka.
