We wanna pull a Leicester! Homeboyz Mururi warns
Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Mike Muiruri has warned title rivals that his charges will do all it takes to pull a Leicester this season.
Mururi was referring to the successful fairytale league run by English Premier League side, Leicester City, who defied the odds and the bookmakers’ prediction to win the EPL title in 2015/2016 season, and in an amazing style.
And Mururi whose charges finished at position five last term has put, amongst others, Gor Mahia, Tusker, AFC Leopards, and the rest of the big boys on notice, noting that they gonna take the battle to the giants.
Among those signed by the club to help them attain the dream include the ageless defender James Situma and winger Noah Wafula who were released by Tusker FC, and John Ndirangu, who is on loan from league champions Gor Mahia.
Mururi said: “We lost four players to our league rivals; that meant that we had to replace them but I’ m glad we got very experienced players to replace them and so far I’m happy with what they are doing for the club.”
Homeboyz lie eighth on the log having won their season opener against Thika United and lost their second against Sofapaka but the coach is optimistic they will improve as the season progresses.
“We are trying to build a new team because it in involves accommodating the new signings,” he said, adding that: “ I know teams are well prepared this season but we will try to maintain the momentum we had last season and see if we will win the league.
Late last year, Kakamega County announced sponsorship for the team, a promise Mururi hopes will add value to the players’ welfare.
“We are still facing the financial challenges but our hope is that the county government honours what they promised. So far our chairman is taking care of everything,” he told Citizen Digital.
