Wazito keen not to falter in tight KPL promotion race

The sizzling battle for automatic top flight promotion slots resumes over the weekend with all the top four National Super League (NSL) sides in the thick of the action.

That Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Kenyan Premier League Limited are yet to agree on promotion-relegation format for teams that finish outside top two makes the race even more heated.

FKF want the third last KPL side to face off with NSL’s second runners up in a plaoff to determine next season’s final top flight side but the league management have recently brushed off the plan.

The top four comprising of Ushuru FC (72), Vihiga United (71), Wazito FC (71) and KCB FC (70) are separated by only two points with three matches left before the close of the season setting up a tense grand homestretch.

Wazito CEO Luthers Mokua says his charges have braved numerous challenges over their campaign and are mentally prepared for their final crucial fixtures.

“It’s a tight because the top five teams all stand a chance but my boys are ready for this. The coach and the players know that at this point you just cannot afford to slip.

“It has not been an easy season for us especially financially. We do not have any corporate partners on board but my boys know full well that getting promoted is the first step in securing a sposnorship deal,” Mokua told Citizen Digital.

The Varsity side who are placed third behind Vihiga on goal difference travel to Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium on Saturday where they Nakuru All Stars while Ushuru also have an away fixture in Kisumu against Palos FC.

KCB host Nairobi Stima at the Camp Toyoyo Grounds where they will be bidding to crash into the top three party.
