Wanyama, Ambani lead football fraternity in mourning former Thika captain
Harambee Stars skipper and Tottenahm Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama, and ex-international Boniface Ambani, have led the football world in mourning their departed colleague, former Thika United captain, Dennis Lewa who was killed in a tragic road accident.
Lewa was among the 58 passengers who passed away in a fatal road accident which occurred in Ternan, Kericho on Wednesday, October 10 enroute to Kakamega.
At the time of his demise, Lewa was travelling to Kakamega to complete a move to Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz after agreeing terms with the outfit.He featured prominently for Thika in the ended KPL season that ended with the team’s relegation from the top flight.
And Wanyama took to his Twitter handle where he relayed his condolences.
“My heartfelt condolences goes out to the family,friends and fans of @Thika United for the loss of their captain Dennis Lewa,God rest your soul in peace brother,and your family may the Lord give you comfort during this hard time.”wrote Wanyama
And Ambani who featured for AFC Leopards was more blunt in his message, pointing an accusing finger at the management of Kakamega Homeboyz. He wrote: ”
The day these club chairmen will think about the players 1st,their comfort,their Welfare etc that’s the day our football will turn around. I send my condolences to all Kenyan Families that lost their loved ones in that accident. My God give you strength. For those who are in Hospital God will see you through your pains.
Rest In Peace Mchezaa.”
Others who joined in sending their condolences include Coast Stima boss Salim Kinero,Modern Coast Rangers coach Abdul Nassir Kassim and Mathare United tactician Francis Kimanzi.
The body is preserved at Jochim Mortuary.The former Coast Stima FC will be laid to rest at his rural home in Tsagwa, Kaloleni on October 20.
