Wadadia eye seven new signings to bolster squad

Wadadia coach Hassan Maloba is planning to strengthen his squad by signing seven more players squad ahead of the second round of the Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) campaign after.

“I need two goalkeepers, two defenders, two midfielders and a striker. As I have assessed my squad in the first leg I could tell the entire team need to be reinforced and that why I have embarked on signing new players,” Maloba said.

He added: “My striker Rose Chebungei is the top scorer in the league at the moment together with Vihiga Queen’s Terry Engesha having scored 11 goals each. I think she needs one striker who will ease her goalscoring burden.”

After the first leg of the league which ended last weekend, Wadadia rank third on the standings with 13 points. Second placed Trans Nzoia Falcons have similar points but have better goal difference while leaders Vihiga Queens top the zone B league with 19 points.

“My aim was to finish in the second position but our last 2-2 draw against Kisumu All Starlets last Sunday at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu dragged us behind. If we could have managed a win then we could have achieved that with 15 points.”

Maloba however said the loss on Sunday triggered by missing the services of his first choice keeper Monica Odato who was suspended.

“We lost our last Sunday match because we didn’t have our first keeper. He was shown a red card two weeks ago but now I am happy that she has served he punishment to the fullest and she will be available in the second leg.”

The KWPL’s second leg will begin on March 6.
