Vihiga reappoints coach Tera, targets KPL slot

National Super League (NSL) side Vihiga United has resigned Tom Tera as an assistant coach, almost five months since he was fired alongside the then fellow assistant coach Francis Xavier and the then coach Mike Mururi due to poor performance.

Tom Tera takes over from Vihiga Queens head coach Alex Alumira who held the role on an interim basis for three months.

Tera will assist Sammy Okoth who was confirmed last week as their permanent head coach after short stint on interim basis while Nick Yakhama and Collins Oduor who were unveiled last week alongside Okoth will be club’s technical director and goalkeeping trainer respectively.

The team sponsored by the Vihiga County Government also unveiled new players, releasing others last week.

Club President Kahi Indimuli justified the reasons why Tera was brought back saying it’s for continuity.

“There is no love lost, football is about performance and there is always an opportunity for a coach or player to come back to a club because maybe that season was not just good for him,” Indimuli said.

Indimuli added that they needed someone who is versed with the team, and knows the club history for continuity purposes.

At the same time Indimuli said they’ve given the head coach a target of ensuring the team earns a promotion back to the KPL

“We have given him our desire, and as the management and employer we have a duty and responsibility to help the head coach achieve his objective,” Indimuli narrated.

Indimuli, meanwhile, said the 15 players that were dropped by the club was due to indiscipline.

The club has also brought on board Ebwali Secondary School captain Samuel Tawayi to strengthen the defence. He will compete with his elder brother Zablon Khaemba for a role in the team’s central defence even as they aim to sign three more foreigners.
