Vihiga Queens coach Alumira hails WPL title triumph

Vihiga Queens head coach Alex Alumira said his charges knew ‘exactly what to do’ to win as they defeated Thika Queens 2-1 to lift the 2017 FKF Women Premier League (WPL) title.

Alumira said they were desperate to avenge the defeat in last year’s playoff final which featured the same teams and had asked his team to avoid a second such heartache.

“I don’t believe in a team beating you twice; last year they beat us because it was our first time. We went sat down realized our mistakes and we came knowing exactly what we were coming to do,” he said.

Teresa Engesha was the hero at the Camp Toyoyo Grounds on Sunday as her brace lifted Vihiga past Thika who pulled one through Wincate Kaari.

Engesha said their victory was a case of just wanting it more than their opponents and claimed little satisfaction in her winning goals.

“My target was to score four goals and not two goals that’s why I was not satisfied with two goals. We came this time round to leave a legacy that’s why we targeted the trophy,” she stated.

Vihiga County FKF chairman Mr Anamange Savulani congratulated Alumira’s team for emerging champions.

“They have made us proud as a County.”
