Vihiga in the market for a top striker Okoth

Vihiga United are active in the transfer market scouting for a ‘lethal’ striker to help turn around their fortunes in the FKF Premier League, head coach Sammy Okoth has said.

United have been lethargic in front of goal failing to convert the chances created and the coach believes getting a lethal goal poacher will help answer the problem. They lost 0-1 to KCB  at the weekend.

“It’s the striking force that is letting us down because the work of defense is to defend and the work of strikers is to look for goals. We create more chances and we need to look for a good goal poacher who can be utilizing the chances we are creating,” he said.

Okoth also decried the fixture glut and lack of experience in his side, blaming it for the poor run they have had in the top division.

“It’s not that we are underperforming for facing big teams, it’s because we started on a low note but we have been improving game by game, and these big teams have been giving my players morale and courage despite the fact that most of them have not played in the top flight,” he added.

In the last five games, the Vihiga county based club have managed one win against Gor Mahia (1-0), drawing with Ulinzi  Stars(0-0 )and registering a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka 1-1 . They’ve also recorded identical 1-0 defeats to Posta Rangers and KCB.

Apart from a top striker, Okoth also wants to add a goalkeeper to his roster.

“I will be forced to look for time to search for a goal poacher as we have been having a tight fixture. I haven’t had time yet due to the tight schedule.  I can’t look for a player whom I need to teach what to do …I need a top class player who knows what he is needed,” said Okoth.

Vihiga United who are placed 15 on the log with nine points after 11 matches host fifth placed Kariobangi Sharks on Thursday at Mumias Sports Complex .
