Vihiga County forms sports committee

The County Government of Vihiga has formed a sports committee that will oversee the day today running of sports activities in the county.

Dubbed Vihiga County Sports Management Committee, the body consists of seven members. It will be led by Senende Boys High School principal Albert Masiolo, and is tasked with coming up with sports management policies in the county, approving county sports plans and implementing national government sports directives.

Other members of the Committee are; Vincent Amwayi (football representative),Willy Asienwa (netball), Daniel Andafu(boxing),Claire Indira(rugby), Ebby Sagala(disabled), Peter Emodia and Elizabeth Omuyoyi (youth).

Addressing residents after its inauguration, the committee chair Albert Masiolo assured residents that his team will deliver on streamlining sporting activities in the county, but will first have to overcome  a myriad challenges to meet its objectives.

“We will want to see this county at the next level, the main resource we have is human resource and this resource is being tapped in terms of talent that we do have,” Masiolo stated.

The committee will have to work out ways of raising money to fund the sports kitty from which local teams will benefit.

“We want to take this opportunity to welcome any other persons that could come in as volunteers because what the county government may have might not be enough to facilitate various talent in the county,” said Masiolo.

However, outgoing FKF Western Branch secretary Kelvin Mwangu who was also in attendance challenged the county government to consider having a stadium of national repute in which local premier league teams can use to host their matches.

Vihiga County does not have a single stadium that meets the Fifa benchmarks.
