Unbeaten Kabras march on, KCB pip Blak Blad
Menengai Oilers were held to a 19-all-draw with varsity side Strathmore Leos as Kenya Cup entered round seven at the Nakuru Athletic Club.
In a thrilling contest that kept the fans on the edge of their seats Leos gave as much as they received as action swerved from end to end.
At the same venue, Top Fry Nakuru narrowly lost 18-19 to a determined Homeboyz.
Leos started on high scoring a penalty through Lucas Oppal, with Clinton Khasai adding a try converted by Andrew Matoka.
Oilers responded with three tries scored by Chrispine Shitundo, Emman Odwako and Clinton Odhiambo with Austine Sikutwa adding two conversions while Andrew Matoka drilled in three penalties for the Leos.
Elsewhere, at the Jamhuri grounds in Nairobi, Kabras Sugar RFC maintained their unbeaten record outclassing Nondescripts 41-5.
Henry Du Plessis charges scored seven tries and converting three against unconverted try from Nondies.
Nondies came in the match in the backdrop of a narrow win against Kenya Cup heavy weights Impala Saracens but indomitable Kabras blew them away in ruthless fashion.
In other matches, defending champions KCB rung changes in their squad as they hit Blak Blad 20-15 with Shujaa’s back-rower Andrew Amonde guiding them to victory in a match played at the Kenyatta University ground.
Michael ‘Tank’ Otieno’s Blak Blad missed the services of Brian Wahinya who was named in the Shujaas squad for Hamilton and Sydney Sevens assignments by Kenya Sevens head coach Paul Murunga.
Impala Saracens head coach Frank Wanyama brought in the experienced Erick Kopondo and Shujaas Sammy Oliech but it wasn’t enough as they were defeated by Kevin Wambua’s Mwamba RFC 20-16 at the Railway club.
