Ulinzi Warriors edge World Hope to go top

Ulinzi Warriors dug deep to defeat World Hope 56-51 on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium as they underlined their Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) title-winning credentials.

The result followed Saturday’s 88-78 victory over Equity Hawks, completing a perfect weekend for Ulinzi who thus toppled Thunder to take charge as the KBF league leaders.

“It wasn’t a tough match, I even rested some players who played on Saturday. My aim is to win the remaining two matches so as to top the league and meet position eight in the playoffs,” Ulinzi head coach William Balozi said.

His World Hope counterpart George Namake said their focus is on the upcoming matches.

“It was a good match, we failed to press on the attacking as we had planned but we now look forward for the remaining matches,” Namake said.

Meanwhile after falling to Ulinzi Warriors on Saturday, Equity Hawks bounced back to hammer USIU 76-35 on Sunday at the same venue. The Bankers now have 29 points after 17 league matches and currently in position four.

On Saturday, USIU had also lost 42-57 to Strathmore Blades and are last on the table with 14 points after 14 matches.
