Ulinzi Starlets ace Atieno wants more coorporate female teams

Ulinzi Starlets striker Neddy Atieno has urged corporate clubs in the FKF Premier League to establish women sides in order to increase the level of competition in the country’s top-flight and second-tier women’s leagues.

Neddy who rose from Tar Tar high School in West Pokot to become one of the women premier league’s biggest names has said the competition would be more interesting if teams such as Bandari, KCB ,Tusker and others had corresponding female clubs.

“I have been wondering why many teams taking part in men Premier League doesn’t have their female counterparts. I think it’s high time for they embraced the idea just like what the military did by launching Ulinzi Starlets. It will not only improve competition but also create more opportunities to young talented girls,” Neddy said.

Last weekend Neddy helped Ulinzi to overcome Sunderland Samba 5-0 at the Stima Members Club to qualify for the quarter final slot of the ongoing FKF Women’s Cup Tournament where the winner will pocket a million.

The goal poacher who has been lethal also to the National team ‘Haramnbee Starlets’ will lead her colleagues in the Kenyan Premier League encounter against the hosts Thika Queens this Sunday and in an interview with Citizen Digital, Neddy has put it clear that they are going for nothing than a win.

“In the FKF Women’s Cup we know we are in the quarter finals, that is not the case for now, we are full focused for our weekend match against Thika. Thika are very tough, they are leading Zone A league but I believe we will defeat them and narrow the gap to three points in the second position”

At the Ligi ndogo grounds, Kibera Soccer Ladies will play Makolanders FC, Eldoret Falcons will squire it ut with Trans Nzoia Falcons FC at the Eldoret Show Ground, Zetech Sparks will lock horns with Gaspo Women FC as Wadadi will host Vihiga Queens at the Mumias Sports Complex.
