Ugandan national in match-fixing saga freed

Ugandan national Ronald Mugisha who was arrested last week for alleged match-fixing has been freed the complainant Laban Jobita decided not to pursue the matter.

Last Monday, Mugisha failed to take plea after the court ordered he be detained for five days pending further investigations’ by the DCI but has now been released with the magistrate ordering the miscellaneous file closed.

He was arrested on January 23 by DCI officers disguising themselves as Western Stima footballers following a tip-off by Jobita who is chairman of the FKF Premier League.

Mugisha is said to have handed out Sh10,000 for ‘lunch’ and made a promise of USD 5000 if Stima players went ahead and lost their league match against KCB FC in the exact manner he wanted.

Last year, FIFA banned four Kakamega Homeboyz players for their involvement in match-fixing among them Ugandan national George Mandela who was banned for life. The three others, Moses Chikati, Festus Okiring and Festo Omukoto were handed four-year bans.
