Troubled Shujaa frustrate Australia in Dubai Sevens opener

Kenya 7s team Shujaa put aside their pay woes to put in a stellar performance against Hong Kong Sevens winners Australia, drawing 19-19 in their opening match at the Dubai Sevens.

Shujaa started brightly with Herman Humwa notching the first try which was successfully converted by Tony Omondi as the Kenyans took an early 7-0 lead.

The in-form Billy Odhiambo added the second try moments later and Omondi again put away the extras before Australia hit back to leave the score at 14-7 by half time.

Australia were quick off the blocks after the restart, claiming another try to even matters.

The evergreen Willy Ambaka hauled Shujaa back in the lead but the defending champions rallied back to earn a 19-19 draw.

Next up, Shujaa will take on South Africa at 2.20pm.
