Striker Omala chuffed at Gor support as he balances school and football

Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala says he is receiving enough support from his team and school management as he juggles between football and his academics.

Omala who was signed by Gor from Western Stima during the current transfer window confirmed to Citizen Digital that the good communication between the club and his school as he prepares to sit for his KCSE has given him the peace of mind and encourages him to give his best on both sides.

“It’s not an easy thing to do especially when you don’t have the right support system around you, I am lucky to have a great team surrounding me; both in school and at the club.

There is constant communication between the parties and at no point have they disagreed. The club understand the importance of my academics and the school respects my passion for football; I am so grateful to them,” said Omala.

His sentiments were echoed my club secretary general Sam Ochola.

“As a club we have told him education comes first and that’s why when the league starts he will be limited to the number of appearances until he has finished his exams, then he can be fully involved with the rest of the games until the end of the season,” confirmed Ochola.

Having earned his first call up to the national soccer team Harambee Stars, Omala is eager to partner his idol Michael Olunga ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Comoros next month.

“Nothing humbles me like playing alongside my idol. I will work hard all the time to make sure I follow his footsteps, and make my country proud anytime I will  given an opportunity to do so, but I know there is a lot of competition and its only hard work and discipline that will earn me a spot in the team,” Omala told Citizen Digital.

The rising star will be linking up with a group of local players tomorrow as they prepare for the tie on November 11 and the return leg four days later.
