Solid Homeboyz rise to third with victory at Nzoia

Kakamega Homeboyz moved up to third on the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings with a 2-1 victory over Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium on Saturday.

At the Muhoroni grounds in Nyanza, financially troubled Chemelil Sugar fell 1-2 to visiting Western Stima.

At Sudi, Shami Mwinyi and Christopher Masinza were on the score-sheet to fire the visiting Homeboyz  to within two points of league leaders Gor Mahia FC.

Homeboyz are now on 23 points, just two shy of the table-topping Gor while Tusker are second on 24 points.

The contest give little away in the opening proceedings as each side missed open chances until the 57th minute when Abonga converted a cross easily tapping into the net after a mix up with the Homeboyz defenders inside the  six-yard box.

Shami Mwinyi  however restored parity for Homeboyz  in the 77th  minute before Masinza had the final say with a stoppage time winner.

The  pace of the game increased with the bench power shouting instructions from all sides.

Coach Nicholas Muyoti of Kakamega Homeboyz was elated with the win moreso after his boys utilized second half chances to take lead.

Muyoti thanked his striking force for a spirited fight in the last 10 minutes of the game hopeful that his charges will give out a similar battling performance against Bandari next week.

“My boys played well, we fought hard, and I’m hoping we shall replicate the same against Bandari,” Muyoti said.

Nzoia Sugar captain Benson Mangala said that they’ll aim to bounce back next week against western Stima

“We played well but lost against a solid side, I want to assure fans we are going to improve against Stima.”
