Simiyu was the right pick for Shujaa job, says Impala coach Ocholla

Former Shujaa coach Mitch Ocholla believes Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu is the right man to lead Shujaa after being appointed to the slot last week replacing New Zealander Paul Feeney.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Ocholla who is the Impala Saracens coach said Simiyu had a good season in his first tenure as Shujaa coach between 2016/2017 leading the team to several main cups quarterfinals in the World Rugby Series before he was sacked after the Paris Sevens fiasco.

“It’s a good choice because he had a good record before the Paris Sevens fiasco as he was able to get to the main cup quarterfinals severally in the World Rugby Series,”said Ocholla.

Ocholla led Shujaa during the 2011-2012 World Series campaign where Kenya finished 12th and he says Simiyu has the ‘right philosophy’ to lead Shujaa.

“I believe his philosophy and how he works is pretty good in terms of how Kenya rugby is run and his statistics and analysis will give the team a better growth and consistency which the Union wanted going forward,” he added.

“He should work on how to make Kenya the world beaters by being consistent in the World Rugby Series by making sure the team reaches the semi finals and quarterfinals of the main cup,” advised Ocholla.

Ocholla says that having seen Simiyu lead Shujaa make history by attaining 100 points mark in the series, he will be able to choose a good team to compete in the  competition, Olympics and Commonwealth Games since the Union has given him a two-year contract.
