Simbas bow out of World Cup repechage

The national 15s team lost 42-17 to Hong Kong as the last available route to the 2019 Rugby World Cup eluded them at the repechage tournament in Marseille, France.

Hong Kong scored six converted tries for the victory while Tony Onyango scored two tries for the Simbas with Elkeans Musonye scoring a converted try Samuel Oliech converting it after a one two play with Collins Injera.

Ian Snook’s charges face a dead rubber match against Germany, who upset Hong 26-19 in their repechage opener last week, next Friday.

Snook made six changes to the squad that was humiliated by Canada with the captain Dennis Chenge missing Saturday’s game through injury.

Speaking to KRU website Kenya’s captain Wilson K’Opondo said “I’m very proud of what the boys gave in but we will be back later.”

Kenya led the game for an hour but lost it in the last minutes.

“That’s something we need to work on going forward, we need to just to rectify how we close the game, because we were in it for the longest time but we had bad calls towards the end and we lost it there.”

The winner of the round robin round will face defending champions New Zealand, South Africa, Italy and Namibia in Pool B.
