Bandari FC on Thursday confirmed the return
of goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo from KCB, marking his comeback to the club six
years after leaving to join Tanzania's Yanga FC.
Shikhalo, who departed Bandari FC in
2019 to join Yanga FC, later moved to Mtibwa Sugar, also in Tanzania. He then
returned to Kenya, playing for Kakamega Homeboyz before making his move to KCB
FC.
A well-known figure in the national
team, Harambee Stars, Shikhalo will now compete alongside Bryne Odhiambo, James
Omusinde, and rising star Abdulrahman Mwinyi for the starting goalkeeper
position.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper played a
crucial role in helping Bandari win the FKF Cup (formerly the Shield Cup) in
2019.
Shikhalo expressed his readiness for
the new challenge with the club, saying, "I’m happy to be back. I know the
challenges ahead, but I will give my best to help Bandari FC achieve its goals
this season."
Head coach Ken Odhiambo shared his
satisfaction with the team’s current goalkeeping lineup, noting, "I’m
happy to have four strong goalkeepers. It’s not that the others aren’t up to
the task, but having depth ensures that if one gets injured, the next is ready
to step up and lead the team."
Coach Ken emphasized the importance
of a strong team over individual strength, stating, "The strength of a
team should surpass that of any individual. We are signing players as
individuals, but our focus is on building a team that is unbreakable."
Having previously worked with Coach
Ken in the national team setup, Shikhalo is expected to continue building on
their strong relationship.
"We welcome Farouk back; it’s
not our first time working together. He’s like a son to me. We pray that he
quickly adapts and helps us achieve our targets alongside Brian."
In other team news, reports indicate
that rising talent Shaban Mwachozi from FKF Division 2 side Rwafa FC has also
joined Bandari FC following an impressive performance with Rashid Abdallah's
Select team during last year's Rashid Abdallah Super Cup.
This mid-season transfer window has
seen Bandari FC strengthen their squad further, with new signings including
lethal striker John Mark Makwata from Coastal Union of Tanzania, midfielder Ali
Halafu from Division One side Congo Boyz, defender Dennis Ng’ang’a (formerly of
Zanaco and Gor Mahia), and Clifford Ouma from Nairobi City Stars.
