Sawe targets bigger heights at London DL

Two-time African High Jump champion Mathew Sawe is set to compete at the 10th stop of the IAAF Diamond League Series in London over the weekend.

It will be his second Diamond League appearance this season after registered his season best of 2:28m in the sixth round which was held in Rabat last month.

Sawe, who has a personal best of 2:30 will be aiming to improve on that mark as he intends to use the meet to prepare for the African Games set for 19-31 August at the Moroccan capital Rabat.

“I want to improve on the current Seasons best; 2:28 is good but not good enough,” he told Citizen Digital.

The 31-year-old who will be taking part in the World Athletics Championship for the first time in Doha, Qatar in September and October, has been in training in France this year.

“I was in France for two months prior to the Rabat meeting, and then I came home for the Africa Games qualifiers where I made the team,” he noted adding: “A 2:33 would be perfect for me”.

He is set to depart the country tomorrow for the two day meet in London, with stiff competition expected from Yu Wang of China and Majd Eddin Ghazal of Syria all with a seasons best of 2:31, and Essa Mutaz Barshim who has a personal best of 2:46.
