Saracens sail past Oilers, KCB crush Kisumu as Blad pick huge win
Impala Saracens put up a dominant performance to beat Menengai Oilers 37-29 in a Kenya Cup match played Saturday at the Impala grounds in Nairobi.
Elsewhere, Stanbic Mwamba fell 13 -18 to Top Fry in Nakuru, Blak Blad hit Western Bulls 44-0 as champions KCB secured a 35-7 win over Kisumu RFC at the lakeside city.
At Impala grounds, Mitch Ocholla’s men scored five tries converting three plus two penalties against Gibson Weru Oilers who scored four tries converting three and a penalty.
Simon Muniafu scored the first try in the fourth minute for Saracens before Xavier Kipngetich converted for a 7-0 lead.
This was just the beginning of what would prove to be a see-saw battle as Austine Sikutwa scored a 30 metre penalty to cut the deficit for Oilers to 7-3.
Kipngetich then came knocking with a penalty to make it 10-3 for Saracens in the 14th minute.
Derrick Keyoga then went over the whitewash to make it 15-10 for Oilers in the 21st minute.
However, Kipngetich was heavily involved in this particularly game scoring another penalty to make it 13-15 for the Saries in the 27th minute.
With the scores almost even, Impala made some neat play resulting to a sweet try by full back Samuel Oliech, Kipngetich converting to make it 20-15 to take a halftime lead.
Billy Omondi then went over after the break for his brace in the 41st minute to make 30-15 with an unconverted try but Oilers replied cutting the deficit to 33-22.
The home side would however have the final word through Antony Nyandigisi who went under the posts with Quinto Ongo converting to make it 37-22 .
