Returning Ugandan duo a lift for Quins at Christie7s

The Kenya Harlequins have included Ugandans Joseph Aredo and Solomon Okia in their squad for the Christie Sevens scheduled October 14-15 at the RFUEA Grounds.

The duo, fresh from international duty with the Uganda Sevens national team, will be a huge boost for the Quins who are without injured Kenya sevens powerhouse Frank Wanyama.

Being hosts for the 54th edition of the Christie, the Quins will have the privilege to field two teams during competition that marks the fifth and penultimate leg of the National Rugby Sevens Circuit.

The Ugandans are in line to feature against newly promoted University side Mount Kenya University before facing another Campus side Strathmore Leos in their second game of the day.

The side will then close out their preliminary round fixtures with a match against top flight side and Sepetuka Sevens champions Kabras Sugar.

Quins Head Coach Victor Sudi told Citizen Digital that his team is well prepared and ready to rumble on Saturday.

“The boys have been consistent during the series and managed to qualify for all Main Cup quarters. Our main aim is to improve on this and be able to challenge for the Cup trophy on Sunday,” Sudi said.

There is a possibility that the circuit champion could be decided at Christie ahead of the series finale, the Dala Sevens that will be played in Kisumu.

Quins are currently ranked eighth on the series standings with 42 points – 26 adrift leaders Menengai Cream Homeboyz – after losing crucial points to Prinsloo winners KCB at the Sepetuka round.

Wanyama’s absence will surely be felt but the Quins armory still has Kenya sevens duo Patrice “situational” Agunda and Eden Agero as well as the experience partnership of Dennis Muhanji and swift scrumhalf Godfrey Okoth.
