Referees training kicks off in Kericho

Over 350 referees and match commissioners from all over the country have converged at the Kericho Green Stadium for the Physical Endurance Test (PET) which is expected to end at the weekend.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is conducting the training which was officially opened by FKF vice- president Petra Doris.

The referees and match commissioners who will preside over FIFA, Kenya Premier League (KPL), National Super league, Divisions One and  League Two assignments for this season will benefit from the training.

Doris said the workshop is key for referees as it is used to test their fitness for games besides ensuring that they stick to football rules and FIFA standards.

She said FKF is committed to ensuring the referees and match commissioners get the best training so as to officiate games as per the rules and FIFA standards. She also decried the poor state of sports infrastructure in the country noting that had impacted negatively on sports development especially football.

“We don’t have infrastructure for playing football in Kenya . We we don’t have play grounds at the grassroots. So if this is not addressed, we are going nowhere as a country. We are appealing to the counties to build stadia and playing grounds, for the sake of sports development,” Doris said.

The National Referees Committee chairman Joseph Andere thanked FKF for conducting the workshop saying the exercise was very important in the referees’ career.
