Page happy with U-17 team progress ahead of CECAFA

Kenya Under-17 coach Oliver Page says he is impressed with the team’s preparations ahead of the CECAFA Under-17 Championship set for Kigali Rwanda, between December 13 and 28.

Having been in residential camp for 11 days, Page working to pick a formidable squad for the tournament after a national wide selection process.

The team lost 3-1 to National Super League side Kibera All Stars on Wednesday afternoon, but Page is still impressed with the newly assembled team.

“The boys met their seniors Kibera Black Stars and put up a strong performance. There are few areas we need to work on, but I’m generally happy with their performance,” said Page.

With a blend of the recently selected players from different regions and the boys who have been training at the Centre of Excellence for over two years, Page is hoping to have a good tournament in Rwanda.

“I am happy with the team we selected as they show promise and dedication which are key for us to achieve a positive result in the Championship,” he noted.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan was conducted on Monday, on all the players to ascertain their ages as required by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Kenya has been pooled in Group B alongside with Uganda and Ethiopia, where the winner in each group and the best runners up qualify for the semifinals of the tournament.

Further, the finalists will qualify for the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations set for Morocco next year.
