Over 25,000 runners set for StanChart Marathon

Organisers of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon have increased the price money for the 42km race to Sh2 million and announced they expect a total 25,000 participants for the October 27 race. Price monies of Sh300,000 and Sh200,000 will be awarded to winners in the 21km and 10km according to the new reward scheme provided during the launch of what will mark the 17th edition of the competition. There will also be a corporate relay challenge for the first time where the winning teams will win Sh150,000 but will be expected to channel it towards a charity of their choice. Following the official launch, the registration window will remain open till October 15, 2019; this will see all participants register at a fee of KES 2000 late registrations will be accepted from October 16 to 24 but at an increases fee of KES 2500 through this registration is open to a maximum of 25000 participants. Speaking during the event, Athletes Kenya President Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei, said Athletics Kenya has worked tirelessly to enhance the quality of the marathon with a view of matching international standards. “This marathon is through an achievement that has been built on as widespread support of the community, and you have heard and seen Dennis Kimeto’s journey to the world stage. We are proud that the marathon is contributing to the success of many elite runners like Dennis and Vivian Cheruiyot,” added Tuwei.  This year’s event will feature six race categories; 42Km male and female, 21Km male and female, 10Km male and female, 21 km wheelchair male and female, 5Km family fun run and newly revamped CEO race. The Global event has attracted seven partners including Athletics Kenya, Nairobi City County government, All Terrain Services, Subaru, AUA Industria, Kenya International Conference Centre and Fairmont.
